The Road to our World Famous Burgers

Morvant’s Bar and Grill has a rich history that began in 1927 when Mr. Bero and his wife Effy opened their doors, serving only the best burgers with chips on the side. At just 13 years old, Candy started working there washing dishes, and over the years, the restaurant saw several owners. When the opportunity arose to rent the restaurant, Candy approached Mrs. Morvant but was turned down for being too young. Instead, her father, Elton, took on the lease. Alongside his wife Ruby, Elton worked tirelessly at the restaurant for over 35 years. In 1973, Mrs. Effy returned to teach Candy the original hamburger recipe, which is still used today to create the best burgers Morvant’s is famous for.

In 1999, Candy expanded Morvant’s legacy by opening an additional location, Morvant’s III, in Broussard, Louisiana. Today, the restaurants are managed by Candy, her brother—who expertly boils all the fresh seafood—and her sister, who operates the food truck.

Their recipes, passed down through generations, have become a staple in the local dining scene. Each morning, their hamburgers are mixed by hand and cooked to order, preserving the same exceptional quality that has made Morvant’s a household name in Youngsville, Broussard, and beyond. The women who have upheld this family tradition for decades continue to run the restaurant, ensuring that every customer experiences the best in Louisiana cuisine.
